The conference office will be located at the Foyer in front of the Senatssaal of the Humboldt-University, the place where the opening will take place. Every participant will receive a conference folder and the conference proceedings (about 400 pages) during registration.

General Meeting of the Academic Association for Information Science (HI):

The general meeting of the Academic Association for Information Science (Hochschulverband der Informationswissenschaft e.V.) takes place on October 17, 1996, 5.30 p.m. in the Senatssaal, Unter den Linden 6.

Social Event:

The social event will take place at the Professorenmensa (professors dining hall) of the Humboldt University on October 17, at 7.00 p.m.

Software Demonstrations:

Software Demonstrations will be held on October 18 and 19, 1996 in room no. 413, 4th floor, Schiffbauerdamm 19. Further information will be given in the conference folder.

Best Student Paper Award:

The Best Student Paper Award will be granted on October 18, 1996 from 5.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. at Senatssaal, Unter den Linden 6.


The posters will be presented in room no.413, Schiffbauerdamm 19.


The tutorial by Mr.Christian Wolff will not only be held on Tuesday the 15th but also on Wedneday the 16th. It will take place at Schiffbauerdamm 19, room no.413 from 10.00 a.m. until 4 p.m. Enrollment is only possible for Tuesday the 15th. The session on Wedneday the 16th is already booked out.

Information for speakers:

The scheduled time includes five minutes for discussion. Please contact the conference office at least two hours before your scheduled talk. In case you need more equipment than a blackboard and an overhead projector, please contact us at least one week befor the meeting.

Local Situation:

Both conference places are placed in the centre of Berlin with about 10 minutes distance from each other. You can reach both places via Station Friedrichstraße (U- und S-Bahn) as well as via S-Station Unter den Linden by foot.
