Challenges for the Information Economy

Filtering of Information

Fifth International Symposion on Information Science

October 17-19, 1996

It is a challenging goal to apply scientific results of the "classical" information science to the market and it's requirements. This is shown by the revolutionary developments in the area of multimedia, hypertext, visual interfaces, and surplus value services like the internet. The new online-services of the global information economy are a challenge for the traditional information services. The new technologies will penetrate the entire society with the means of communication technology, and therefore they will fundamentally change the information economy. Search, filtering, concentration, and evaluation are the main issues. Still, the contributions will not be limited to these topics. Fundamental reasearch in information science, topics in social and cultural consequences of information science, and the viewpoints of neighboring disciplines will be represented as well.
