The eighth International Scientific Conference--`Danube: The River of Co-operation' (ISC-DRC)--takes place from 26 to 29 September 1996 in Belgrade. The ISC-DRC is an independent non-governmental organization which aims to promote co-operation between scholars and experts at regional level. It was begun in 1989 on the initiative of Dr Edita Stojic. One of the conference's major goals is to promote the idea of mutual life-paths, tolerance, and co-operation among peoples in the region. Since the project was set up, there have been seven annual international conferences and a greater number of round-table meetings focusing on themes such as regional and inter-regional co-operation, international relations, the economic situation in the Danube states, communications, regional tourism, energy, culture, and ecology.
